Vogue Thailand Issues Apology After Backlash Over Disrespectful Tweet About BTS’s Jimin While Spotlighting BLACKPINK Following VMA 2025 Nominations

Vogue Thailand has found itself at the center of major online backlash after a now-deleted tweet targeting BTS’s Jimin caused outrage among fans.

The controversy erupted shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) officially announced the nominees for the Best K-Pop category for the 2025 ceremony, set to take place on September 7, 2025, at the UBS Arena in New York City.

This year’s nominees are:

  • aespaWhiplash
  • JENNIELike Jennie
  • JIMINWho
  • JISOOEarthquake
  • LISA ft. Doja Cat & Raye – Born Again
  • Stray KidsChk Chk Boom
  • ROSÉToxic Till the End

Shortly after the announcement, Vogue Thailand posted multiple tweets focusing heavily on BLACKPINK members, highlighting Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé, while making no mention of the other nominees

However, the situation escalated when Vogue Thailand tweeted:

“Get ready to see how many awards she can take home! #VMAs #VMAS_DISQUALIFY_JIMIN”

now-deleted tweet

The inclusion of the hashtag #VMAS_DISQUALIFY_JIMIN sparked immediate outrage among BTS and Jimin fans, who accused the account of being unprofessional, disrespectful, and intentionally fueling fan wars.

Many criticized Vogue Thailand for ignoring other nominees and targeting Jimin, questioning whether the account was being run by a biased individual rather than a professional social media team.

Following the backlash, Vogue Thailand deleted the tweet and issued a formal statement:

“Vogue Thailand sincerely apologizes for the August 6, 2025, incident on our official X account, where a post using a hashtag damaged JIMIN of BTS’s reputation due to an unintentional error by our team. We admit that this behavior may have fueled animosity within the online community. We take full responsibility for this oversight and reaffirm our dedication to working more carefully and diligently to prevent similar situations in the future.”

However, the apology did little to calm the outrage. Many fans refused to accept it, accusing the publication of lying about the tweet being accidental.

Some also accused Vogue Thailand of having a history of using artists’ names to create drama for engagement, only apologizing when faced with significant backlash.

As the criticism continues, fans are demanding accountability and for Vogue Thailand to take stricter action internally to ensure this type of incident is not repeated.
